Phuket futsal clinic to promote FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012

PHUKET: The coach of the Thai national futsal team and 10 of his players will hold a futsal clinic for Phuket youth this weekend at Saphan Hin sports gym.

Coach Jose Maria Paza Mendez and his team will be teaching futsal techniques to a group of 50 local students on Saturday and Sunday from 4pm to 5:30pm.

Although the clinics are not accepting any more participants, all Phuket youth are invited to visit the sports gym during the program times where they can take part in friendly futsal competitions.

The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) is hosting the event as part of the “Thailand to the World” project to promote two international sporting events to be held in Phuket in the coming years: the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012 from November 2 to 18 and the 4th ASEAN Beach Games from November 14 to 21 in 2014.

SAT Phuket Office Director Wirat Patee said, “This is a a good chance for Phuket youth to practice with a professional coach and players of the Thai team. This road show will attract the attention of people in each province to let them know that Phuket is going to host two international sports competitions soon.”

The clinics are also being held in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Suphan Buri and Nakhon Sri Thammarat.
