Phuket Airport To Add Personal Touch

PHUKET TOWN: Government departments and tourism businesses have launched a program to improve the quality of service at Phuket International Airport. Plans for a “Living Room of the Nation” project were thrashed out during a seminar attended by over 250 people at The Metropole hotel on February 11. The project aims to train staff at the airport to provide high-level service, take a more personable approach to their jobs, and improve their English language skills, according to Tawat Anukoon, Deputy Managing Director (Operations) of the Airports Authority of Thailand. Mr Tawat said this was necessary because of the increasing number of foreign tourists arriving at Phuket International Airport. “For many people, the airport forms their first impression of Thailand, so it is important that we have good quality, well trained staff,” he said. Also attending the seminar were the Director of Phuket International Airport; the Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Southern Region 4; representatives from the Customs and Immigration departments; and members of the private business sector, particularly hotels, airlines, and tour companies.
