Petty robbers pose as policemen

PHUKET TOWN: Two young men impersonating plain-clothes policemen searching for Ecstasy tablets robbed a 16-year-old boy on Sunday outside the Phuket Public Library on Phuket Rd. Pol Capt Pin Inmak, of Phuket Town Police Station, told the Gazette that Somkeat Maliwan was riding his motorbike along Phuket Rd at about 5 pm when two men on a motorbike pulled alongside and then cut in front of K. Somkeat, forcing him to stop. “They said they were policemen checking for Ecstasy. K. Somkeat emptied his pockets to prove he wasn’t carrying any. But when no Ecstasy was found, the men kept K. Somkeat’s 300 baht and mobile phone and sped off,” said Capt Pin. The men are both about 20 years old. K. Somkeat described one man as short and fat, but could not recall any distinguishing features of the other man.
