OrBorJor spends B8m on tsunami victims

PHUKET: Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor) spent 8.7 million baht between January 15 and February 21 on helping Phuket’s tsunami victims, OrBorJor president Anchalee Vanich Thepabutr disclosed.

K. Anchalee said the OrBorJor had funded 89 cremations at 3,000 baht each, and given 5,000 baht apiece to 36 children who had lost parents.

A total of 3,268,590 baht has been used to make homes habitable and 4,986,500 has been distributed to 1,050 fishermen whose businesses have suffered because of the tsunami.

This comes to a total of 8,702,090 baht, said K. Anchalee.

She said the OrBorJor had assisted 1,355 “cases”: 260 in Rawai (so many because the homes of the sea gypsies there were small and built closely together, said K. Anchalee), 161 in Cherng Talay, 152 each in Vichit and Chalong, 148 in Mai Khao, 135 in Kamala, 126 in Rassada, 90 in Patong, 89 in Sakoo, 20 in Talad Yai, 11 in Karon, six in Thepkrasatree and five in Kathu.

K. Anchalee added that the OrBorJor will give priority to aiding tsunami victims, while other urgent projects are the establishment of an island-wide emergency warning system based on walkie-talkies, and the establishment of first aid facilities ready for immediate mobilisation at any time.
