Krabi woman gives birth on boat

KRABI: Two Krabi police officers helped deliver a baby at sea on Sunday morning, when the mother could not make it to a hospital on time.

Capt Prayong Pongsawang of the Khao Phanom Police and Lt Rawi Praekpan of the Krabi Provincial Forensic Police are being called heroes on social media for safely delivering the baby.

The Krabi woman, who remains unidentified as police could not verify her name, was already in labor when she arrived at the Suan Satarana Thara Pier in Krabi Town at about 6:30am. The woman from Baan Talay was on her way to the hospital with a family member aboard the Ussanee when her water broke.

“She could not walk to the pier because of the pain, so we had to carry her and eventually deliver the baby on the boat,” said Lt Rawi. “It took us about five minutes to deliver the baby boy. We called an ambulance from Krabi Hospital to come pick them up before returning to work.”
