Gamblers top arrest stats – again
PHUKET: Gambling, for the third successive month, topped Phuket’s arrest statistics, according to figures released recently by Phuket Provincial Police, who made 144 arrests for gambling in July. Seventeen of the cases involved the sale of underground lottery tickets.
Sixty-seven people were arrested for the illegal possession or use of narcotics, with 1,521 ya bah (methamphetamine) tablets seized.
Of the five murder cases reported during July, police made an arrest in connection with one case and are continuing their investigations into the others.
There was one attempted murder reported last month, but no arrest was made, and of the 20 reported cases of causing bodily harm, police arrested 11 suspects.
Forty-one people were arrested in connection with prostitution.
There were 62 reported cases of theft, with 37 arrests made. Six were bag-snatchings, for which police arrested eight suspects.
