Free window tint checks on offer

PHUKET TOWN: Phuket transportation officials say they have started providing free window tint tests for motorists. The tests are intended to help drivers comply with a law that has already gone into effect, but which will not be enforced until June 1 next year. The new law prohibits vehicles from having windows that block out more than 60% of light. Uthai Sriwilai, chief of the Phuket Provincial Transportation Office, told the Gazette, “The window-testing equipment we have is the same type used at Bangkok police stations. It is used at our office on both new vehicles and those being transferred to new owners. The test takes only a few minutes.” Those interested in having their windows checked should go to the Transportation Department office on Rattanakosin Song Roi Phi Rd in Saphan Hin between 8.30 am and 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday.
