Dead katoey puzzles police

PATONG: Police are scratching their heads after beach guards pulled the body of a katoey (transsexual) from the sea near Patong Beach yesterday morning. Pol Col Kokiat Wongvorachart, Superintendent of Kathu Police Station, told the Gazette that the corpse was clad only in a black brassiere, white women’s panties and short white pants. The body has been identified as that of Kajonkiat Dangdee, 20, from Khon Kaen. Kajonkiat, also known as Amy, worked at the Uncle Bar in Patong. An autopsy showed that Kajonkiat did not drown, but died of a broken neck. “I’m puzzled because, apart from the broken neck, there were no marks on the body to suggest violence,” Col Kokiat said. “We have asked many people who knew the deceased. We also checked at the bar, but everyone said Kajonkiat had never had conflicts with anyone and was very friendly with everybody.” He added that witnesses had said Kajonkiat had been drinking whisky before leaving the bar. “Maybe he continued drinking whisky alone on the rocks by the shore, then lost his balance and fell, breaking his neck,” Col Kokiat speculated.
