Danish man found dead in Kata hotel

KARON, PHUKET: In what police are treating as a case of death by natural causes, a Danish tourist was found dead in his hotel room at Kata Beach on Wednesday morning.

Chalong Police Duty Officer Parichat Jaturonphan identified the deceased as 60-year-old Svarre Mortensen, a guest at the Tropical Garden Resort in Kata.

Mr Svarre’s body was discovered lying face up in the bathroom by a room maid on her morning rounds who let herself into the room after knocking several times.

At 8:30 am, hotel staff reported the death to Chalong Police, who arrived at the scene with rescue workers from the Phuket Ruamjai Kupai foundation.

Police found no signs of struggle or foul play in the room.

They estimated the time of death at around 3 am.

Mr Mortensen’s body was sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital and the Danish Embassy has notified his relatives.
