Cyber Paradise gets B30m boost

PHUKET: The central government will spend about 30 million baht to open an office to help give birth to “Cyber Paradise”, Dr Surapong Suebwonglee, Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), has announced. The office, which is expected to be open within three months, will be in a currently vacant building belonging to the Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus, at the Phuket Communication College at Saphan Hin. Dr Surapong explained that the ICT office will facilitate domestic and foreign investment in the software industry in Phuket. The office will also be responsible for creating a new gateway portal to the Internet in Phuket, with the aim of providing local businesses with high-speed access. The move is part of a government initiative to develop Phuket, Chiang Mai and Khon Kaen into IT centers.
