Crackdown on illegal workers results in 375 arrests
PHUKET TOWN: A series of blockades and a sweep of construction sites in Phuket on December 19, 20, and 21 resulted in the arrest and deportation of 375 illegal Burmese immigrants. According to Phuket Governor Charnchai Soontharamat, the number of arrests and deporations could reach 600 by the end of the year. The arrests are part of a nationwide crackdown against illegal immigrants and workers. The Immigration Police, Provincial Police, Frontier Police and Marine Police worked together to make the arrests.
