Court denies bail for motorcycle taxi driver

PHUKET CITY: Chainart Yuyen, the Patong motorcycle taxi driver arrested for the September 13 shooting murder of another motorcycle taxi driver from a rival queue, has been denied bail by the Phuket Provincial Court.

Accompanied by relatives, Chainart, 31, turned himself over to police on September 15.

He has allegedly confessed to the murder of 31-year-old Pornchai “Ko-Cherd” Suwannakin, who was shot twice in the head and twice in the back while he was standing talking with friends on Phisit Gorani Rd.

After turning himself in, Chainart has also allegedly confessed to the shooting murder of yet another motorcycle taxi driver – Satien Wongwai, 25 – in a 7-Eleven on Nanai Rd on May 19 this year.

Mr Chainart was out on bail for that murder, which he had previously denied, when the second murder took place.

Once again, his relatives tried to post bail for him in the form of land title deeds, but this time the Phuket Provincial Court heeded a recommendation made by police that he posed too serious a threat to society to be released.

His next court appearance was scheduled for tomorrow (Friday 26), but sources say it would likely be postponed because police are still questioning witnesses in the case.
