Burmese fisherman found murdered

PHUKET TOWN: A man believed to have been a Burmese fisherman was found murdered on Thursday in deep grass near Sri Sena fishing port. Pol Maj. Pissanu Poolwong of Phuket Town Police Station told the Gazette that the man, as yet unidentified, had died from 14 stab wounds to the forehead, neck, chest, stomach and right side. He added that – as with previous murders in the port – the wounds appear to have been inflicted with a sharpened steel reinforcing bar. The dead man is estimated to have been between 35 and 40 years old. He is thought to have died at least six hours before his body was found at 9:30 am. “The villagers around there told me that he was Burmese fisherman, but when we asked why he had been killed they said they knew nothing. They also said they could not identify the victim,” Maj Pissanu said. This is the seventh port murder recorded by the Gazette so far this year. In the same period last year there were 14 murders in the port area.
