American resident, 50, dies in bike smash

PATONG: Kamala-based financial adviser Richard “Nick” Dixon, 50, died of multiple injuries after he lost control of his motorcycle on Tuesday and smashed into an oncoming pick-up truck.on a sharp curve in Kalim. Pol Lt Serm Kwannimit of Kathu Police Station told the Gazette that when he arrived at the scene at around 5.45 pm, Mr Dixon, an American citizen, had already been taken to Patong hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. At the scene Lt Serm found the remains of Mr Dixon’s black Yamaha motorcycle, with a pool of blood about three meters away. Also at the scene were the pick-up truck and its driver, Narongsak Teasakul, 36. “K. Narongsak told us that Mr Dixon had forgotten to raise the kick-stand on his motorbike. When he reached the bend, the stand dug into the road, causing him to lose control and smash into K. Narongsak, who was driving from Kamala,” Lt Serm said. K. Narongsak was charged with reckless driving causing death. Mr Dixon’s body is currently at Patong Hospital awaiting collection by his family.
