Almost a last meal for prisoner

PATONG: A 50-year-old Finn who was arrested on Wednesday evening for gambling, and then left to sleep off the night’s alcohol consumption in the Patong Police Station lockup, probably thought life could not get much worse. But it did. After the man, named by police as Peter James, was put in the cell, his girlfriend brought him some water, some food and some mosquito repellant to keep the insects at bay. Early this morning, police said, James woke and ate the repellant by mistake. It was not long before officers realized something was wrong and rushed him to Patong Hospital, where doctors managed to save his life. After treatment, James was returned to his cell to await a court hearing on the gambling charge.
