Abandoned baby found in field

KATHU: A baby boy, estimated to be only three days old, was found abandoned in a field used by a driver’s training school in Kathu yesterday morning. Pol Capt Theerarat Choychanchaikul, of Thung Thong Sub-District Police Station, said the baby was found wrapped in a towel inside a black leather bag. The bag had been placed on the ground next to an old dump site in the field, which is located near the Phra Phuketkaew Rd junction. Two Kathu residents, 70-year-old Opas Sakulwannak and 60-year-old Chalouy Salee, heard the baby crying while they were walking around the area at 6:30 am yesterday. They then notified the police. Capt Theerarat said that the baby was sent to Wachira Phuket Hospital for a health check. Meanwhile, the police have yet to find out who the baby’s parents are, and why they abandoned the child.
