100 million baht of counterfeit goods seized in Patong

Acting Immigration Police Chief Maj Gen Surachete Hakparn last night headed down to Soi Bangla and seized more than 50,000 counterfeit items with a street value of more than 100 million baht. Illegal foreigners, allegedly working without proper papers, were also arrested.

Maj Gen Surachete says, “Phuket is one of Thailand’s most important tourism destinations. Many people from difference countries are visiting Phuket and working on this island. Many retailers are also selling fake goods marked with known brand names.”

“We checked 28 points in Soi Bangla and seized more than 50,000 ‘fake’ items worth more than 100 million baht on the streets. Some sellers were arrested during the raid and will face legal action. We are continuing to suppress the sale of counterfeit goods.”
