A heartbroken 17 year old mother yesterday contacted the police after discovering her one year old baby daughter dead on the bed in their rented room in the Tung Khru district of Bangkok. The circumstances surrounding the child’s untimely death remains a mystery, and a thorough investigation is currently underway.

The family of the girl reported the baby’s death to officers at Tung Khru Police Station yesterday at about 2pm. Officers rushed to the rental room to investigate the case and question the parents and family members. However, they could not identify the cause of the girl’s death.

Officers reported that the girl wore a pink tank top but did not wear pants. She lay on the bed, and her body was covered by a blanket. Nearby the body, the girl’s mother, 17 year old Bee, was heartbroken and crying heavily.

Medical workers from Siriraj Hospital were called to the scene where they uncovered the blanket to examine the body. They discovered dozens of ants crawling on her eyes and vagina. The baby girl also had scratches on her face, lips, and hands, and her feet were black.

Bee’s grandmother, Pornpen, revealed that Bee told her about the death in the morning, and she arrived at the scene in the afternoon. She held the baby and found that her body was cold and stiff. Ants were all over her body.

The baby’s 18 year old father, A, reported that the girl had a stomachache the night before. So, he gave her medicine prescribed by a hospital. Her symptoms got better and she fell asleep. He played with the baby in the morning before leaving her room to go to work. He did not know what had happened to his daughter.

Bee explained that she and her daughter woke up in the morning when her husband was about to go to work, and then they fell asleep again. She woke again at 11am and found that her daughter had passed away.

Bee’s mother, Pimpa, who is 40 years old, told police that someone told her that the couple did not take good care of their baby daughter. On April 16, this person informed her that the girl picked a rock from the floor and put it into her mouth. It was fortunate that the child later removed it. It was possible that she might have put other things into her mouth when her parents weren’t around.

Medical professionals could not determine the cause of the girl’s death at this time. The body is under autopsy at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok.

Pornpen suggested that the medicine could be the cause of death. According to the medicine label, it had not yet expired, but the hospital prescribed that medicine two to three months ago when the girl was eight to nine months old.
