Chiang Mai, tourists and historic sites just don’t seem to mix well.

This time, two people are in trouble after they were photographed having a drink sitting casually on top of one of Chiang Mai’s historic walls.

The Chiang Mai News Facebook page is calling on the authorities to take action.

As usual, netizens saw the tourists’ behaviour as inappropriate. But many say, rather than snapping photos and doing nothing, they should have told the couple to get down and alerted them to the sign forbidding such a cultural faux pas.

The post has so far attracted 90 comments and 42 shares as of mid-afternoon.

Last year a man from Liverpool and a Canadian woman were each fined 100,000 baht and threatened with jail for spray painting at the Tha Phae gate.
