A story about a gang of three armed men attacking an employee and stealing money from a Chang Mai Hotel appears to have been a false report.

The employee has eventually confessed to making the story up.

The original story alleges that the men had held up the Airport Resident Hotel on Mahidol Road at 5:45 am in the process cutting one employee with a knife before fleeing the scene on a blue Honda Wave motorcycle.

Police studied CCTV footage from around the hotel and found absolutely no one meeting the description at the time of the alleged hold up.

After interrogating 30 year old Mr. Yotakorn Yisuthai he eventually confessed to making the story up and cutting himself to add to the charade.

35,000 baht in stolen cash was subsequently located in Mr. Yisuthai’s locker on the second floor of the hotel.

Mr. Yisuthai, who had only been working at the hotel for a month, claimed that he stole the money to pay for gambling debts.

He has charged with stealing from an employer at night and has been remanded in custody.
