Ayutthaya woman admits to faking attempted rape story for attention
A Thai woman admitted fabricating a story that two men abducted her, tied her up, and attempted to sexually assault her in Ayutthaya on August 21 to attract attention from her family.
A Thai man filed a complaint with the police after receiving a threatening message from two suspects who said they would rape his 28 year old girlfriend. He said that the criminals had used his girlfriend’s phone to send him the message and a picture of her being tied up.
He said that he had tried to contact his girlfriend, but she did not answer. Later, the suspects sent him the location of the incident, which led him to file a complaint and go to the scene. Upon arrival, he found his girlfriend abandoned on the roadside and took her to safety.
The woman explained that two men on a motorcycle had followed her while she was riding her motorcycle to work in the Sena district of Ayutthaya. They then threatened her with a knife and forced her to ride with them to an isolated area.
She said that they tied her hands and feet and tried to take off her clothes but stopped when they heard someone nearby.
The woman went on to say that the men then turned their attention to her valuables. They stole around 2,000 baht in cash and her mobile phone. They forced her to provide the passcode to her phone and used it to send threatening messages and photographs of her to her boyfriend, along with her location.
Today, August 26, the police summoned the woman and her boyfriend for further questioning. The interview lasted more than 30 minutes while investigators examined CCTV footage and other evidence related to the report.
According to Channel 8’s report, the woman eventually admitted that the abduction and attempted sexual assault had not happened.
She told the police that she had made up the story because she was experiencing family problems and felt that she was not receiving enough love or attention. She wanted to test her family and boyfriend by staging the incident to see if they would be concerned about her.
The police added that the woman was in a poor state of mind. Her boyfriend informed the police that he had no knowledge of or involvement in the fabricated incident.
Investigators are examining all evidence to determine whether her actions could constitute the offence of making a false report, after which they will decide whether to take further legal action.
