Overstaying Chinese man and Thai woman arrested in drug raid in Bangkok hotel
Police arrested an overstaying Chinese man and a Thai woman in a hotel room in the Din Daeng district of Bangkok on August 21 with more than 40 grams of crystal meth.
Suthisan Police Station officers searched a room on the sixth floor of a hotel in the Inthamara area of Din Daeng district on August 21, following a tip-off that a group of foreigners frequently gathered there to take drugs.
Upon arrival, investigators spotted a Chinese man, identified only as 30 year old Lin, acting suspiciously in the hotel lobby. Officers identified themselves through an interpreter and showed their Office of the Narcotics Control Board credentials. Lin then agreed to let them search his room.
Inside, they found a Thai woman, identified only as 27 year old Fah. Bags and tubes of crystal meth, weighing more than 40 grams in total, were scattered across a dressing table and a sofa chair. Investigators also found digital scales and small plastic bags used to divide drugs for sale.
A check of Lin’s passport found he had no valid entry documents and had overstayed his visa. Urine tests on both Lin and Fah came back positive for methamphetamine, a Category 1 narcotic under Thai law.
Investigators charged the pair with joint possession of a Category 1 narcotic and with drug use. Lin faces an additional charge of illegally entering and overstaying in the kingdom. Both suspects, along with the seized drugs, were handed to Suthisan Police Station for prosecution.
In a separate drug crackdown reported in April, two Chinese sex creators were arrested at a condominium in Bangkok after residents in the accommodation reported their disturbing behaviour. Various kinds of drugs, sex toys, and pornography were confiscated.
