Gadar 2 storms box office, Sunny Deol’s film set to cross ₹300 crore
Film exhibitor predicts Gadar 2 could beat blockbuster Pathaan's record

Gadar 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2001 blockbuster, featuring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, has been making waves at the box office. With a current domestic total standing at ₹263.48 crore, the film is on track to cross the ₹300 crore mark soon.
The movie, which had a robust opening at ₹40 crore, saw an upward trend, reaching ₹51 crore on its first Sunday. Despite a slight dip to ₹38.7 crore on Monday, the film bounced back with an impressive collection of ₹55 crore on Independence Day. Even on Wednesday, the film managed to rake in ₹34.50 crore, pushing its total beyond the ₹250 crore mark.
Trade analysts are now speculating whether Gadar 2 can surpass the year’s blockbuster, Pathaan. Akshaye Rathi, a noted film exhibitor, expressed confidence in Gadar 2’s potential, stating that the film is “absolutely on a rampage right now” and that the response it received on Independence Day was “absolutely historic.”
Sunny Deol, 64 years old, shared his emotions at a press conference on Monday, revealing that he had experienced a mix of laughter and tears on the release night. He recalled telling his father, “I have not had alcohol. Main khush aa main ki kara (I am happy, what can I do).”
Gadar 2 is directed by Anil Sharma. The narrative resumes the story of Tara Singh, a truck driver played by Sunny Deol, and Sakina, portrayed by Ameesha Patel, 45 years old, set against the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The film also features Utkarsh Sharma as Tara’s son, who is rescued from Pakistan. Other notable actors in the film include Manish Wadhwa, Gaurav Chopra, Simrat Kaur, Luv Sinha, Rohit Chaudhary, Madhumalti Kapoor, Rakesh Bedi, Mushtaq Khan, and Dolly Bindra.
With its strong performance at the box office, Gadar 2 is set to create new records, proving once again the enduring popularity of Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel’s on-screen chemistry and the audience’s love for patriotic themes.
