Mercedes Benz driver lucky to escape burning car

A Mercedes Benz driver has escaped serious injury after the vehicle he was travelling in caught fire in Mai Khao last night (July 12).

Tha Chatchai Police were notified of the boring car on Thepkrasattri Road, northbound, at 11.40pm.

Firefighters, along with two fire trucks and the Tha Chatchai Police, arrived at the scene to find a Mercedes Benz ablaze. It took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. The car was totally destroyed. The cost of the damage is believed to be in excess of 400,000 baht (according to the police report – The Thaiger thinks the estimate is ‘conservative’).

29 year old Sanchai Laolam says, “While I was driving, I didn’t realize that the headlights were becoming dimmer. The brake system was starting to feel faulty. So I pulled over and stopped the car on the side of the road. Then I saw some smoke starting to come out from under the bonnet of the car. Suddenly the car caught fire and I called for help.”
